Dr Parvani Pinnewala

Parvani is a Clinical Psychologist with British education and training. She has Chartered Psychologist status in the UK with a Divisional membership in Clinical Psychology. She is also a registered clinical psychologist in Sri Lanka. Her PhD in Psychology (Macquarie University) examined women’s trauma, resilience, and recovery processes. She has over 20 years of clinical experience treating mainly adults, adolescents and the elderly. Parvani received the Elaine Dignan Award from the Australian Psychological Society in 2005 for significant contributions to women and psychology, in recognition of her clinical, teaching, training and advocacy work. Parvani works with a range of problems including depression, stress, adjustment issues, anxiety (social anxiety, phobias, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive and compulsive behaviours, and separation anxiety), bereavement and grief, women’s issues, self-esteem, issues in confidence and personal development, trauma and recovery, anger management, relational issues (including difficulties in interpersonal, couple or family issues), emotion regulation issues, sexuality and gender identity, acculturation, serious mental illness (including bipolar and psychosis), personality disorders, pain management, and addictions. She is able to provide short-term interventions and longer-term therapy based on the client’s problems and complexity of issues.
