Geriatric Medicine
As we age, our mind, body and spirit change, and these changes can sometimes lead to a variety of health concerns. Geriatric medicine is a subspecialty of primary care that focuses on the unique healthcare needs of older adults.
At Nuvo Health Medical Centres, we are committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to older adults to help them maintain their health and independence as they age.
Our team of staff is specially trained to address the complex medical, psychological, and social issues that seniors may face. We offer a wide range of services to meet the unique needs of older adults, including:
- Comprehensive physical exams and screenings
- Medication management and review
- Geriatric-specific rehabilitation services
- Support for caregiving and advanced care planning
- Management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis
- Geriatric-specific mental health support and counselling
Our practitioners also recognise that older adults may have different cultural and linguistic needs and we strive to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
Bulk Billing and Concession Cards
Most of Nuvo Health’s Medical Centres offer bulk billing for valid pension card holders. You may also be able to get a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card if you have reached pension age, don’t qualify for a payment from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, meet an income test, and are an Australian resident currently living in Australia.
If you have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, you may be able to get cheaper medicine, bulk billed doctors appointments at most Nuvo Health Medical Centres and a bigger refund for medical costs when you reach the Medicare Safety Net.
Free Health Assessments
There is also a new, Medicare-funded initiative that allows eligible seniors to get yearly check-ups. To be eligible you need to be 75 years and over and not be an admitted patient in a hospital, or a resident in an aged care facility.
This visit can be recommended after a standard visit with your GP. You or your carer will be given a copy of the assessment. Any significant others or carers are also encouraged to be present at the time of the assessment.
These Health Assessments can identify unknown health issues; keep you confident in your health; provide you with information around homecare services or home modifications and, if required, the proper referrals for government agencies and health professionals.
Early intervention can allow you to enjoy a longer, healthier life. If you have any questions or concerns about your health, please don’t hesitate to contact Nuvo Health.
We are here to support you and your well-being every step of the way.
