Aviation Medical

Aviation Medicals are available at Birkenhead Medical Centre. They are conducted by Dr Victor Yan for both commercial and recreational flyers.

This includes Class, 1, Class 2 and Class 3 Medicals. He can also undertake reviews of pilots and cabin crew to assess their fitness to return to fly.

All Aviation medical appointments are booked as a 60 minute appointment. Fees for the consultation will be between $250 and $350, and Medicare Rebates are generally not available.

For Class 1 and 3 Medicals, the following tests will need to be completed in addition to your assessment (these additional tests will add additional fees):

• Fasting Lipids and Glucose
• Hearing Test
• Eye Test (This must be performed by a designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO) or credentialed optometrist (CO)
• ECG

You may be required to do urine drug screening for illicit drugs including Cannabis (Please note Cannabis can stay in your system for days after occasional use, and weeks after regular use), Opiates (heroin) Methamphetamines, Amphetamines, Benzodiazepines (antidepressants and sleeping tablets), Cocaine and Alcohol.

For Class 2, no additional test required unless clinically indicated.
